Question:
How much is conversion efficiency of magnesium with solar-pumped-laser smelting?

Answer:
Purity of magnesium with CO2 laser is 70% (solar-pumped-laser magnesium smelting is not practical at this moment because of its small output). It means 30% is magnesium oxide and 70% is metal magnesium when we collect vaporized material.
When we refer to smelting efficiency, it means the amount of produced magnesium with consumed energy usually. The unit is mg/kJ.
However, this method is not clear to explain how much energy is converted into energy of Mg. We define the ratio of heat generated from smelted magnesium and input laser energy as smelting efficiency. It is 45% at this moment. Our goal is to get closer it to 100%, but the present status is sufficient, we think.
We calculate all of our plan, such as cost of device and scale of plants with 45% efficiency. This value (45%) has similar meaning with combustion efficiency of a gasoline engine (20%) or generating efficiency of a thermal power plant (40%).

    詳しい回答いただきありがとうございました。レーザーによるマグネシウムの製錬効率が現状で45%あるのなら、ほかの部分の効率改善が優先されるのでしょうね。
